Main Street + Central Park

Partners in Public Design is helping to transform Johnstown, Pennsylvania into dynamic center of innovation. In collaboration with renowned landscape architecture firm SCAPE, PPD led a high-touch, rapid community engagement process consisting of three large public forums with multiple interactive design exercises; on-line and in-person surveys; focus group meetings with local artists and makers, businesses and property owners, young professionals and students, Veterans’ leaders, disability advocates and outdoor recreation enthusiasts; youth design workshops and competition; pop-up community design space in a local gallery; campaigns for print, TV and social media; and appearances at dozens of local events to promote the project. This $17.2 million federally-funded infrastructure project will improve Johnstown’s livability and create community cohesion and confidence in Johnstown’s economic future.
